Meet Chris! As a Business Development Manager, he knows a thing or two about sales. When asked about his working experience, his face lights up: “I love working at Mollie!” His enthusiasm is contagious, even through a webcam: “but of course I’m a salesman. I could get you excited about the most boring stuff,” he laughs. Read on to find out more about Chris and discover why Mollie is not only a great fit for techies but also for sweet tooths.

Chris about himself

I live with my girlfriend in the city center of Kiel. I love living here because of the Baltic Sea. I’m a big fan of American Sports especially American Football. I am a tech nerd. I like to have the newest gadgets. And I’m a payment nerd; I don’t get people who are walking around with cash.

How did you get to work for Mollie?

I met some Mollies on a trade fair for E-Commerce. I got to know more about the company and the product. I really liked Mollies proposition for the German market, a competitive solution in the payment world. I got invited for an interview. Next, they flew me into Amsterdam to meet with HR and our CCO. My interview was at 12:30 and two hours later I had my contract. It was love at the first meeting!

How was your onboarding experience?

I work in our office in Kiel. For the onboarding Mollie flew me in from Hamburg. I knew the payment market already but had to get to know the product better. If I wasn’t in love with Mollie already, I would have been during the onboarding. Everyone was so welcoming, warm, and open, which is still the case after three months. During the onboarding week, I got to stay in a really nice hotel, the Jakarta Hotel, in the east of Amsterdam.

What do you do as a Business Development Manager?

My responsibility is to light the fire for Mollie. I’m in charge of getting new merchants. At Mollie we are not just sales managers, we are consultants. We are there for the merchant. We try to understand the merchant. How can we help him to improve his customer experience? I focus on merchants with a transaction volume of one million per year. That’s my baseline, that’s where I start. But bigger is always better, as our CCO likes to say.

What do you love about working at Mollie?

What I love is that our product is really merchant focused. The dashboard is very user-friendly. We have the right payment methods for the merchant. We don’t have lockdown contracts or hidden costs. And of course, the working environment is great. Everybody is there for each other. We have after-work drinks and movie nights. Especially now, during these difficult times, Mollie is taking care of us in the best possible way. You feel appreciated. This is very important to me.

What changed with Corona?

The two things I miss the most are working with my colleagues and trade fair. We are all working from home now. Mollie has provided us with everything we need. Monitors, keyboards and we got to take our office chairs home. Every week we get a small present like chocolate or sweets. The German in me is wondering what I’ll get next week and whether it’s going to be here on time. Otherwise things have not changed much. We have our daily calls and stay in touch with Google Hangouts.

What do you want to achieve at Mollie?

I want to help make Mollie the most beloved PSP in Europe, especially in Germany. I want to make Mollie even more attractive for large merchants than it already is.
